Staying outdoors is almost viewed to be a taboo right now due to the pandemic. Hence, society, much like how it has avoided turning into a dystopia over the centuries, quickly learnt to adapt in various ways to satiate their needs of social gratification.
Nowadays, it’s common to hear stories of people discovering unconventional hobbies and crafts at the comfort of their homes. You’d switch your phone on and see tons of notifications pop up on your screen from people you’ve probably lost contact with over the years, all in which are now sharing their newly acquired skills and enthusiastically encouraging you to try it out with them.
It’s funny how that’s the first thing they open the conversation with after they dropped you off the face of the earth. I’d reckon a simple, “Hello, how’ve you been these days?” would’ve probably worked better, don’t you think?
Yes, humans are definitely social creatures by nature, and I don’t mean being extroverts or having a wide circle of acquaintances that are always ready to kick it off with you. We rely, or rather, feed off on communal interactions to define ourselves. Our actions and behaviours are all affected by the exchanges we make throughout our lifetimes.
The advancement of technologies definitely played a role in this social evolution as well. Thinking back, the telephone was invented solely as a more efficient version to replace the telegram, nobody realised the potential it had for mass communication. Recently, we have converted to a more digitally-driven sociability, and that’s totally understandable as well – the satisfaction is enormously vast and far-reaching compared to the old-school meet and greet. One click and within minutes, you’d achieve a full gift basket filled with likes and compliments.
In other words, the feeling of being adored is one of the most sought out desires these days (talk about first-world problems, huh?)
While it’s impossible to imagine our ancestors as TikTokers or Instagram influencers, it’s also impossible to remember our lives prior to Facebook (which was only created 14 years ago in 2006). The takeaway is that: Human beings evolved over time as social creatures and with that change of behaviour made communication an essential part of living.
So, as I write this piece in the living room, dressed in my house clothes since two days ago, with an almost empty cup of home-brewed coffee, I question myself this: Am I only writing this article to get the satisfaction and approval from strangers I'll probably never meet in my lifetime?
Honestly, I’m not sure anymore.
The only thing I’m sure of is that I'll feel amazing when you finish reading this and click on that like button.

23/04/2020 - Life is Funny
It's funny how life works.
One day, you'll wake up.
And suddenly,
All you'll think about is love.
It's funny how life works.
One day, you'll walk down the street.
The one filled with memories of innocence,
And all you can see is your lover's imprint,
every turn, every corner.
It's funny how life works.
One day, you'll feel alive.
Flushed face,
Wandering hands,
Heart & soul connected.
It's funny how life works.
One day, you'll see with clarity.
Every moment hides a truth;
Every memory tainted
With sweet nothings & lies.
It's funny how life works.
One day, you'll wake up
And suddenly,
All you'll think about is loving yourself.
I truly hope you do.
Every moment hides a truth;
Every memory tainted
With sweet nothings & lies.
It's funny how life works.
One day, you'll wake up
And suddenly,
All you'll think about is loving yourself.
I truly hope you do.
